Affordable Fashion | Chris Hill

There’s nothing like a man who can dress. Whether he is dressed up in a suit or dressed down in casual wear, a man who has style will surely turn the heads of everyone. Often time when it comes to men’s fashion, a good sense of style is associated with a good amount of money. Fashion blogger Chris Hill is out to break that stereotype and prove that doesn’t have to be the case. By no means does style have anything to do with the price of your clothes or the name on the label. It has everything to do with how you put yourself together and the personality that you bring with it. So fellas, grab a pen and take some notes because Chris is here to guide you along the way. Add in your own confidence and swagger, you’re presence will surely have an impact!

Mission

Chris Hill is a fashion blogger based in the Unites States’ very own fashion capital. That’s right New York City. The NYC blogger not only provides great tips to men but also shows off his New York lifestyle. “I started blogging in my spare time about menswear and fashion to show and help out the everyday man, just like myself with basic styles. My goal and passion is to show my followers that you don’t have to break the bank to wear nice clothing items or to have great style. My menswear and fashion blog is a way to give every guy out there who is looking to step up their outfits and style to look for some very easy and simple outfit inspirations along with general essentials every guy must have. This could include accessories to suits such as a tie, tie-bar, pocket square, socks, or cufflinks and everyday wear pieces like watches, sunglasses, rings, backpacks and more. Above all, I enjoy using my blogging and fashion to show my everyday lifestyle in NYC. I absolutely love coffee and everything that has to do with it so I am constantly scavenging the city for the latest and newest cup of joe. Everything always goes better when coffee is involved,” Chris says.

Intrigued

Style wasn’t always at the top of Chris’ priority list. In all actuality, his interest is style didn’t derive until after college. “I really started getting into fashion right after college in 2013 ( I always joke 4 years too late lol) because I was tired of fitting in with the crowds that I was with and I really wanted a way to express myself by the way I dressed. The only problem was, I didn’t know where to begin. So I started where most guys probably start, at that was by picking up a GQ magazine. Of course, it was really intimidating to see and read about expensive trendy and classic styles when you are simply looking to get your foot in the door about the basics. So I also started reading blog posts, articles, following some men’s fashion pages on Instagram, learning about color schemes, patterns, materials, accessories, what matches with what, and what doesn’t. Little by little I ingested all of this information over time and slowly began tweaking my style to what I felt most comfortable in. This is all of course, pre blogging. I didn’t get to where I am today until I started working in NYC for a public relations company. Being exposed to some of the most fashion forward men in the world on a daily basis, it definitely shaped my taste, style, and comfortability with menswear to where I am at now today,” Chris explains.

However picking up a GQ magazine wasn’t Chris’ only inspiration to step into the style world. His exploration of the world also played a big part in it. “After graduating college, I commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army National Guard as an Infantry Officer. About 18 months, later I was deployed to the Middle East in 2014 for 9 months. When I returned from my deployment I had about 4 months of free time to do whatever I wanted before I began graduate school for my Masters in Business Administration. So I did the one thing I enjoy doing the most, I traveled the world. I’m a HUGE traveler. Obsessed with it. I’ve currently been to over 35 countries with trips to London, Edinburgh, Reykjavik, Paris, Johannesburg and Capetown all coming up in the next six months. So in March 2016 after I returned from a trip to Oslo, Berlin, and Prague, that’s when my blogging began. I wanted to start sharing my travel photos with more than just my friends and family on Facebook. I had been to so many places, I started looking for an outlet to show the world my photos for some travel inspiration and that brought me to Instagram. After only two months with my travel Instagram in the books, I decided to start blogging about my experiences, places to go, and everything travel related. Eventually reality caught up to me and my traveling came to a halt when I got a job September 2016 in NYC. It was at this point where I began making the transition from a travel account to a fashion account by incorporating my styles with travel photos. Eventually, my page became completely all about fashion and keeping up with my styles and photos had never been easier,” Chris details.

“Without my itch and craving to travel the world, I would never be at the point of my life that I am at today. Traveling opened up my eye to the many cultures, styles, and outfits from around the world that were drastically different to what I was used to growing up.” –Chris Hill

Rewards

Fashion blogging has been very rewarding for Chris. However, Chris doesn’t just find joy within how successful his blog has become. First off, the thing that makes Chris most proud is not the fashion blog itself, but how he even got started in the first place, his work in the US Army. “Serving my country as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army and serving 9 months overseas in the Middle East is the milestone I am most proud of. The Army has opened up so many opportunities in my life like the ability to travel around the world and a free education,” Chris exclaims!

Beyond that, Chris is also very excited about all of the new people he has had the pleasure of meeting along his fashion blogging journey! “I very extroverted and extremely social so I would say the networking. It’s actually crazy to think about the number of friends and connections I’ve made in the industry simply by blogging and taking photos. But it’s worth every minute. I’m a firm believer in the saying, “It’s not always what you know, but also who you know.” Meeting people is an amazing opportunity that can open so many doors to my future. Plus, it’s really cool hearing how everyone in the fashion/blogging industry got to where they are today,” Chris says.

Think about the 80/20 rule; if you get 80% of your impact from 20% of what you do, what is that 20% for you as it pertains to developing and expressing your personal style?

I like to keep things simple. Simplicity in style and minimalism has been the latest trend and it’s exciting and fun to do more with less patterns and minimal designs.

What about discovering new styles to incorporate into your look and style?

Fashion is always changing, and so is my style. I love incorporating small subtle details into my outfits that can make it go from boring to trendy.

What style/fashion accessory is your favorite?

A watch

If you can/could consider yourself an expert in one area of style/fashion, what would it be?

How to put together the maximum amount of outfits with the least amount of clothing

Can you give me a tutorial on how people can best incorporate that style/fashion advice in their life?

Know your colors. Understanding the color circle such as primary and secondary colors and learning which colors work best with each other should be the foundation of fashion and style. Master this and putting together a great outfit will become 10 times easier.
