Sophie Spiegelberger is a fashion blogger that uses her blog as a means to track the evolution of her personal style. She uses her blog a medium to take her audience along with her on her fashion journey. Her creative expression through her blog is inspiring to those who follow her and encourages them to recognize their own fashion journey.
Start
Sophie is just getting started in the world of fashion blogging. As a young high school graduate Sophie is just at the tip of the iceberg. “My blog went live the week before my high-school graduation, so about 9 months ago. I was preparing for my final exams but at the same time fell in love with the idea of running a blog, something I could call my own. It was natural that my blog would be style-based, as fashion has always been a passion of mine. However, I have loved the world of fashion blogs for much longer than that, I just never knew how to start blogging myself,” Sophie says.
Sophie’s interest in fashion started very early on in life. Born in New York, Sophie moved to Moscow, Russia at the age of five. “I spent the next 9 years there. Being exposed to different cultures not only made me who I am today but molded my sense of style. My family always valued quality over quantity and that is definitely reflected in my wardrobe. I’d rather invest in one timeless piece than buy 10 trendy items,” Sophia expounds.
“As far back as I can remember, I was always a perfectionist when it came to clothing. The fit, the material, the color, the pattern, everything had to be just right. It took years and years, however, for me to develop and find my personal style. I’m still discovering it now,” Sophie explains. And that is the factor that makes Sophie’s blog so intriguing. A young fashionista takes us along her journey to really finding her style and in turn discovering more about who she really is. Beyond that, she also wants to help others find themselves along the way too. “I’d like to help others find their voice through fashion and inspire them to see every day as an opportunity to express themselves creatively,” Sophie says.
Rewards
Of course having your own blog just out of high school is rewarding in itself, but Sophie has found a few other rewards in the responsibility she carries. “Being in charge of every aspect of my blog means I have nobody to blame if something goes wrong but also that I can be proud of myself when something goes right,” Sophie declares.
Sophie also find that another rewarding factor of having her own blog is the ability to creatively express herself. “The reason my blog means so much to me is because it serves as a platform for me to express my creative vision, it gives me a voice,” Sophie says. However, the ultimate reward for her is helping others to find a voice of their own.
Future
Looking far ahead in the future is something that’s hard to do especially at a young age. But Sophie likes that aspect of life. “All I want in life is to be able to work on something I’m passionate about and be surrounded by people I love. I never set concrete goals for myself. My mantra is to work hard now and let the future be a surprise!” Sophie announces. However, the first step for Sophie is gaining more education. “I want to graduate from university, travel the world and meet new people. Besides fashion, my biggest interest is politics, which I am currently studying at the University of Vienna. I hope to graduate in a few years but also keep my fashion blog running,” Sophie says.
Who do you consider the icons in the fashion and design industry?
I look up to anybody who has succeeded in standing out and creating something unique. But to be more specific, I’ve always looked up to Olivia Palermo for her impeccably tailored ensembles and designers like Stella McCartney for her strong stance on animal rights.
What style/fashion accessory is your favorite?
My favorite accessory is a good mood. But aside from that, it would have to be shoes and blazers.
If you can/could consider yourself an expert in one area of style/fashion, what would it be?
For me, fit is key. The simplest clothes will look chic if they’re tailored right.
Can you give me a tutorial on how people can best incorporate that style/fashion advice in their life?
My advice would be to go to the tailor more often. I feel like people don’t think it’s worth it, but it really is! Life is short, there’s not time to wear things you don’t love or thing that don’t fit right.
