Since I am a young professional myself, I try to share what exactly it means to be one and how to present yourself in the best light in terms of your fashion choices and lifestyle, while also maximizing the enjoyment of being young and having a good job through travel and lifestyle as well,” Joseph says.

Style

The first thing I wanted to dive into was dissecting Joseph’s style. As a young professional, he has a fresh take on what it means to dress for success. We all know that dressing for a business setting can get quite boring sometimes. However, Joseph knows just how to spice things up while keeping it professional. “I think the perfect way to describe my style is preppy with an edge. I love all the preppy staples and the aesthetic that comes with it, however, I think sometimes that style can be a bit too confining. I like to mix in bold prints, designs, etc. which is why I experiment with street style that incorporates some of the preppy staples,” Joseph explains.

Secondly, I was intrigued by what really influenced him to go this route. It can be so tempting to just say inside the box especially in the professional world. What made him take the risk and step outside that box? “The biggest influence on my personal style and eye for fashion has absolutely been travel! I’ve lived abroad on and off for quite some time, in all different places, and that has really inspired me to challenge the way that I dress and incorporate different cultures into my clothing choices in a variety of ways. I will also say that I’ve been inspired by designers that I have been able to cultivate relationships with,” Joseph explains.

“I’ve been interested in and passionate about fashion and style since before I can remember. It all started with my mom. She would dress me in the most impeccable outfits since birth, and that translated into my teenage and adult years. I love dressing up and dressing well, but I think my interest really deepened and was taken to the next level when I first interned for GQ.” -Joseph Lucido

Childhood

Speaking of mom, I asked Joseph to go a little bit more in depth about how his childhood impacted his take on style. While his mom has definitely been the backbone behind everything he does, he always had the love and support from the rest of his family as well. “Like I said earlier, my mom really was a major impetus for my interest in fashion. In all honesty, my mother is my main inspiration for most of the things that I do! She is a truly amazing woman and the most supportive person I have in my life, followed by my sister and father of course. I was also really lucky that I got my love from travel from my parents who truly saw the value in allowing their children to experience different cultures during the early stages of life.

Other aspects of my childhood that helped to mold me into who I am today are that I was actually born on the island of Guam. Then of course there is the fact that I’m half Italian and half Filipino. So having those two cultures impact that way I was raised definitely gave me  unique perspective, especially on fashion,” Joseph shares.

Achievements

Even though Joseph is young that hasn’t stopped him from accomplishing some major things thus far. He was definitely happy to share a few of his favorites.

“I think walking in New York Fashion Week for the first time when I was a teenager was amazing! One of the highlights of my life for sure. And then being able to continue that and walk in several other fashion weeks internationally and of course back in NYC was amazing!

Another accomplishment/milestone was having my content published in various publications, I think it really gave me the affirmation that what I’m doing is of high quality and something people want to see.

And I hate the whole numbers game, but when I hit 100k followers on Instagram I was like, “Ok. I guess this a thing now!”

Honestly the most rewarding part of my journey are the experiences that I am afforded because of my interest in fashion and social media. I’ve gotten to do some incredibly unique and amazing things that I don’t think I would have been able to otherwise. Then there are the connections that I am able to make with people who have a similar love for fashion that I do,” Joseph exclaims!

Think about the 80/20 rule; if you get 80% of your impact from 20% of what you do, what is that 20% for you as it pertains to developing and expressing your personal style?

I think it goes back to travel and experiencing new things, people, and places. If I didn’t do this constantly I would be very pleased with my style and I wouldn’t evolve. But fashion is an ever changing entity and if you don’t evolve with it you can easily become passé or dated.

What about discovering new styles to incorporate into your look and style?

Travel is a big part of this, as well as meeting new people and having them inspire me with their ideas and designs

What’s the next frontier in building your tribe?

I think it is really just continuing what I do, focusing on what I like and what makes my point of view interesting/unique but also trying new things and keeping my followers engaged in what I’m doing. I’m lucky because I get bored easily, so I always want to try new things, go new places, or have wild new experiences. This translates really well to social media and I think is a large factor in why I’ve grown so much. One avenue that I don’t really use too much that I would like to is video content, I’m thinking of producing more of that.
